Club Events

1181 Trophy - September

Short course handicap racing for boats with PY of 1181 or greater.
Run in conjunction with Mirror Trophy & Topper Trophy.

Atkinson Trophy - October

Novice helms' races. 3 handicap races. Best 2 to count.  Run in conjunction with Captain’s Cup, competitors must sign-on for either this trophy or for the Captain’s Cup at the start of racing. Races may be held on a separate course to the Captain’s Cup races but have the same start & finish line.

Helms must not have won any senior trophy previously, nor been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in club or open series or trophy event.

Bank Holiday Pursuits

Late Spring Bank Holiday and August Bank Holiday.  Two pursuit races with an extra penalty for experienced sailors and those with proven ability in the class being sailed. All entrants will be given a personal start time. First race starts at 12:00.

Captain's Cup

3 handicap races. Best 2 to count.   Competitors must sign-on for either this trophy or for the Atkinson Trophy at the start of racing.

Club racing

Three races are held on club Sundays; all club members are welcome to compete.

11:15 90-minute pursuit (Approximate start times - Mirror 11:15, Lasers 11:30, Javelins 11:45)
14:00 60-minute handicap
15:45 60-minute handicap

On Wednesday evenings, from May onwards, a 60-minute handicap race is run, starting at 19:30.

Frostbite Series

Two races are held on club Sundays in the Frostbite series; all club members are welcome to compete.

Class Opens - Various week-ends

Many class associations hold Open Meetings at the club. During these days, only boats taking part in racing may sail unless specifically stated otherwise by the organiser.  This year we are trying to maximise the use of the water by running Club racing alongside some Open Meetings.

Dragon Pursuit - St Georges Day Weekend

Open event, long pursuit race of 180 minutes from the PY 1180 start. The race may be reduced in severe conditions to 146 minutes. The race starts at 13:00. Practice starts at 11:30.  The Dragon Trophy is awarded to the first boat. Prizes for first 20% of places. Separate trophies for 1st. GDSC, 1st. under 18 helm, 1st. lady helm, 1st single-hander and 1st. Sailboard. Other prizes dependent upon entry levels, usually to 6th or 7th place – see centre pages.

Easter Trophy - Easter Weekend

Nine handicap races, 3 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday and 3 on Monday. Best five results to count. Draws shall be decided by the last race in which tied boats competed, then by most boats beaten. An Easter Tea will be provided at the end of Monday’s racing.

Fennell Trophy - September

Open event. Junior sailors' Optimist racing - under-16's only.  5 short class races lasting approximately 30 minutes. 3 races to count.  Prizes for all.  Held at end of Junior training.

Jubilee Trophy - Early May bank holiday

Three handicap races lasting 60 minutes.   First race starts at 12:00.  Jubilee Trophy awarded to winning boat. Prizes for first three places.

Junior Trophy - June

Junior members' racing. 3 short handicap races lasting approximately 30 - 40 minutes. Two races to count. Helms may not win the Junior Trophy more than once in any one class of boat.

Midsummer trophy - Midsummer evening

Long handicap race on the evening of the Open Day.  Race starts around 19:00 and will last about 90 minutes for the lead boat.  Midsummer Trophy awarded to first GDSC boat.

Mirror Trophy / Topper Trophy - September

Mirror & Topper racing. 3 races planned, 2 to count. Races last approximately 40 minutes. Mirror Trophy awarded to highest placed Mirror. Separate trophy for first junior helm. Topper Trophy awarded to first Topper.

Open Day - Midsummer

Free sailing for non-members. Trips around the lake in a variety of boats. Followed by barbecue. Help needed from all club members.

Rotunda - Midsummer Sunday

Open event. Very long handicap, approximately four hours.  Race starts at 13:00 and ends around four hours later. At the OD's discretion, it may be shortened for prevailing conditions. Rotunda Trophy awarded to 1st GDSC boat.

Reporter Trophy - Last Sunday of the season

Fleet racing for all adopted Glossop fleets.  Three handicap races. The three best-placed boats from each fleet count towards a fleet score in each race. Each fleet is then given a position in each race determined by the lowest total score. The winning fleet is determined by the best overall placings from all three races (points awarded to each fleet in each race will be 1 for 1st. place, 2 for 2nd. place etc).

Interclub Trophy 

Yearly event held alternately at GDSC and Peninine Sailing Club. Open to all club members.

Highpeak Regatta 

Held yearly at one of the four competing clubs. Glossop, Errwood, Coombs and Todbrook.
