Can I bring my own boat or windsurfer?WB01372_.gif (406 bytes)

Of course !  As long as you are able to master the conditions on the day, you can launch and sail at the club for £5, on any Saturday during the season (unless a major event is running - see sailing diary.)

What if I don't have a boat or a board ?

That's no problem as we have club boats to take you out in, or club windsurfers that you can use on one of our regular Fundays !

So what are Fundays?

Fundays are organised Saturdays, run once a month to enable first time sailors and windsurfers to have a go.  There is a party atmosphere and on sunny days, a barbeque.  We also run some mini races for those who would like to give racing a try.

By picking one of the FunDay Saturdays, you’re guaranteed other club members will be there to help, by providing a variety of boats to try.

Mark IS windsurfing

.. . and if I've never sailed before?

Don't worry, we're used to that.  All you'll need some suitable sailing gear (see Fundays, opposite), a change of clothing and a sense of humour - we'll supply a buoyancy aid.

We can cater for groups providing that you give advance warning by contacting a committee member.

First-time sailors

We will spend a short time informally explaining the parts of a boat and what the crew does when sailing. When you know the bow from the stern, we’ll help you get ready for sailing and take you for a sail around the lake, giving you time to see what’s going on and a chance to helm if you wish.

... but we'd failed to tell him how to get back

If you wish to try trapezing, we will usually be able to offer you the opportunity to sail with a club member in one of the many high performance dinghies at the club.

Windsurfers can be offered a little tuition and the chance to have a go.

Safety considerations

Funday sailing is supervised at all times and is suited to anyone who is confident in water.

Buoyancy aids will be supplied for all attendees but you will need to  bring some lightweight, warm clothing and an old pair of trainers, as well as a change of clothing in case you get wet.

In colder weather you should bring a wet suit and waterproofs if you can obtain them.

When are Fundays held ?
